More information about the video content bellow: 1. Christopher Columbus is said to have said after leaving behind a storm: “Thank God we’ve left these Depths.” And he called Depths (Honduras) the area, and Thank God (Gracias a Dios) the Cape he left. 2. Tegucigalpa is the capital of Honduras and seat of government of the Republic, along with its twin sister Comayagüela. Claimed on September 29, 1578 by the Spaniards, Tegucigalpa became the country's capital on October 30, 1880 under President Marco Aurelio Soto. The current Constitution of Honduras, enacted in 1982, names the sister cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela as a Central District to serve as the permanent national capital. 3. The Honduran currency is the lempira, and it is named after an Indian chief that fought to death against the Spanish conquerors. It is assumed that a lempira bill has an image representing the face of the legendary chief Lempira, but instead contains the image of an American Red Indian. 4. Honduras is located in the waist or isthmus that links North America with South America, and it was the result of the clash of these two landmasses. If not for the existence of the Central American isthmus, in which Honduras is in the middle, sea currents would have taken other directions, the weather had been different in Africa, and humans would not have evolved as they did. 5. In Yoro there is the phenomenon of fish rain (lluvia de peces). Literally, fish fall from the sky. The explanation generally offered for the rain of fish is meteorological, often speculated to be strong winds or waterspouts (fishnados). 6. One of the most intriguing events of Honduras are the Sawdust Alfombras of Comayagua. On Good Friday morning, Comayagua locals use colored sawdust to create religious scenes on public streets. Teams of locals work together for hours to create the intricate images but these same images are stamped out immediately when the local priest takes out a procession marking the Stations of the Cross. This is a wonderful event to view and of course, the Easter celebrations that come on the following Sunday are an event to behold as well. 7. Honduras has one of the most complex and intricate biospheres in the world. The tropical forests contain some of the rarest plants, animals and birds in the world. The Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve in particular is a UNESCO heritage site and a must-visit even if you don’t like animals, plants, and birds! The site is also home to more than 2000 indigenous tribes that still follow their traditional lifestyle in the biosphere. Cutaway of media 9. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Victor Rico, Organisation of American States (OAS) Envoy to Tegucigalpa: "I see a positive attitude towards dialogue, a dialogue that will finally solve the political crisis in Honduras, a crisis that is causing suffering, above all, to ordinary Hondurans." 10. Close up of reporters 11. OAS delegation walking through hotel lobby STORYLINE Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya on Sunday attended a mass inside the Brazilian Embassy in the capital Tegucigalpa, where he has been holed up with supporters since 21 September, after secretly returning to the country. Zelaya was forced from office on June 28 by a military-backed coup, and flown out of the country, but managed to return and took refuge in the embassy. Alongside his wife Xiomara Castro, some members of his government, supporters and journalists, Zelaya took part in the mass during which he called on Hondurans to gain "a new life full of hope" from the current political crisis which started 99 days ago. The factions fighting for control of Honduras have begun talking, in the run up to a meeting that many hope will end the political crisis sparked by Central America's first coup in more than a decade. Interim President Roberto Micheletti told reporters that a dialogue is "beginning" between his supporters and those of Zelaya. But Zelaya's supporters remained sceptical about Micheletti's willingness to compromise. Micheletti has become increasingly alienated at home after his administration imposed an emergency decree this week suspending some civil liberties, including freedom of the press and freedom of assembly. He promised to lift the decree no later than Monday after being criticised by his own supporters for going too far. A delegation from the Organisation of American States, which has taken the lead in pushing for a negotiated resolution that restores Zelaya to power, was in the country ahead of a visit by OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza scheduled for Wednesday. Speaking to reporters in Tegucigalpa on Sunday, OAS envoy Victor Rico said that there was a "positive attitude towards a dialogue" that could solve the crisis in Honduras. Micheletti said on Friday that he had met Insulza in recent days and that, while no agreement was reached, it was a sign of progress and that "peace is coming back to our country." Insulza confirmed on Saturday the two had held talks "in the last few days" in Honduras. Nations around the globe have condemned Zelaya's ousting and many, including the United States and the European Union, have suspended aid to Honduras. Zelaya denies that was his intention. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Supporters of Manuel Zelaya, the deposed president of Honduras, are defying an emergency decree issued by the interim government to clamp down on protests and the media. Honduran troops on Monday shut down two broadcast outlets that have been critical of the interim government, hours after the country's de facto authorities issued a state of emergency restricting key civil liberties. Zelaya, who was ousted exactly three months ago, has called on his supporters to march in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. Former Honduran president Manuel Zelaya, who was ousted from power in a coup in June 2009, is set to return from exile.
